The question I get asked the most when it comes to Senior Portraits: “I am a Senior, do you recommend that I book my session in my hometown or out of town?”

I think this is a great question here! Traditionally we would want our photos taken at our high school or even hometown. I think we confuse the meaning of Senior Portraiture and what exactly is should be. I am not for or against being photographed in at your high school. I think that it is something historical and timeless but seeing yourself in a city can also be just as classic. I recently photographed a senior out of town, the atmosphere was awesome and I can just picture her 40 years from now looking back at those photos and thinking, “WOW! This place looks so different than that of the time I was at my Senior Session.” The memories that Zoe has made her mom are priceless; just like the many Seniors that I have the honor to photograph. These are the times that you can’t ever get back, the times that you think you have forever to make. My answer to every Senior that wants to have their photographs done with me would be: Choose a place that is special to you. Choose a place that you love and that expresses how you feel. Think about a location that you want to see yourself in front of 30 or 40 years from now. You do not always have to follow the trend, be yourself and that will be the best gift that you can give to your future self. The memories and photographs will stand the test of time! I hope this helps you with the decision making process for your shoot.
